Still Committed to the Scriptures after 165 Years

St Peter's Lutheran Church of Walmore has its roots in East Germany where an entire village chose to immigrate to America rather than give up their religious heritage. True to the Scriptures and the Lutheran tradition these pioneers have kept their convictions alive by maintaining a Christian Day School since 1843, which provides quality education for children from all our surrounding communities.

St. Peter's has kept its commitment to making Christ known through many changes in culture and church affiliations going back to the old Buffalo Synod, the American Lutheran Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The need to make Christ known has most recently taken the shape of exchanging the structures of denominational Lutheranism for the freedom of function offered by Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.

Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ is not a denomination but an "association" of Lutheran congregations in eight countries whose primary purpose is sharing the life giving Gospel of Jesus Christ through the biblical concept of equipping all believers to have their daily lives rooted and grounded in the Scriptures. Building on a biblical worldview, the “ association” encourages each congregation to make its own unique contribution in our shared ministry to the world. The national "association" of 210 congregations supports 25 mission starts in America as well as outreach efforts in Mexico, Nicaragua, India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Belarus through the efforts of individual congregations partnering across political and geographical boundaries.

Also unique in comparison to "main line" denominations who have a large and costly central organization to address the practical issues of ministry, Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ has returned to a biblical "grassroots" approach of each individual congregation accepting responsibility for reaching out to others both locally and abroad at a personal level of involvement. After 165 years of ministry in Western New York, St. Peter's Lutheran still offers that personal level of involvement through its Christian Day School and community service that is rooted and grounded in the Scriptures.
